Woggles made Easy, My Way

Blue over White
Red over Blue
Bottom down through White and Red - First Phase.

White over Red
Blue over White
Bottom down through Blue and White - That is one set of two phases - Example A

To get the Plait tighter, complete 2 sets of 2 phases - Example B

Now insert a male press stud at one end and a female press stud at the other end - Hey presto! a woggle to fasten / clip round a scout's scarf.

For a long belt, complete as many sets of 2 phases as are necessary.

Inside Mystery Braid

The inside mystery braid will work with any odd number of thongs. I've tried as many as nine.

The sequence is: go the number of passes that you have strands and then turn the tail through. Go the same number of passes again and pull the tail through again. The remaining thongs should now be straight. Thus if you have 5 strands (thongs), go 5 passes (one thong laid over another) and twist the tail through. Go another 5 passes and pull the tail through again. The remaining thongs should be all straightened out. Continue until the braid is done.

If the braid is a bit loose on one end and tight on the beginning end, work it through from loose end to tight end with a fid to even out the tension on the braiding.

Before you braid, make sure to edge all the thongs on GrainSide and FleshSide so that you'll have no sharp edges when you handle the resulting "strap". It's a tedious process but worth it.
